You run a business, and you’ve worked hard to get your products known by your consumer base. You have your own brand, your marketing scheme and a specific look that you want to have associated with your business.

You weren’t expecting to see a competitor using your exact same images to promote their version of your products. You didn’t think anyone would be so blatant about stealing a marketing campaign or using your social media posts nearly word for word.

What can you do if another company is violating your copyrights and other protected aspects of your business?

If you find that someone else is violating your copyright by creating identical products or using your marketing materials, then it’s time to talk to your attorney. While there is some allowance in industries for similar marketing campaigns or products to be released, there is a definite difference between producing similar content and creating identical content. All of the money and work you’ve put into your business shouldn’t be what helps your competitor in the market.

There are a few different things that you can do if another business is trying to take advantage of your hard work. For instance, you may file a lawsuit over a copyright dispute. You could attempt to buy out the business and shut them down, or you could mail them a cease and desist letter. Your attorney will be able to give you more information on the best path forward since you’ll have more information on the specifics of your case and how the other party has violated your rights. Our site has more on protecting your business and how to handle copyright disputes.
